Mckee Plan

Abbotsford is a growing city in British Columbia, and as with any growing city, the need for housing is crucial. The city has recognized this need and has implemented the McKee Plan, which aims to address the issue of housing and urban development in a sustainable manner.

The McKee Plan is a comprehensive land-use plan that focuses on creating walkable neighborhoods with a mix of housing options, commercial spaces, and community amenities. The plan calls for the creation of higher density residential areas, such as apartment buildings and townhouses, in key areas of the city, while also preserving green spaces and agricultural land on the city's outskirts.

The plan also incorporates energy-efficient and sustainable design principles, with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting net-zero energy buildings. This is especially important as the British Columbia building code is set to introduce new net energy zero building code changes in the coming years, which will require all new buildings to be designed and constructed to produce as much energy as they consume.

The McKee Plan is an important step in creating a sustainable future for Abbotsford. By creating compact, walkable neighborhoods with a range of housing options, the city can reduce its carbon footprint and promote a healthier, more active lifestyle for its residents. With the implementation of net energy zero building code changes, new buildings in Abbotsford will be at the forefront of sustainable design and energy efficiency.

Overall, the McKee Plan is a forward-thinking approach to urban development that prioritizes sustainability and community well-being. As Abbotsford continues to grow, it will be important for the city to continue to prioritize sustainable development and adopt policies and practices that promote a healthy and vibrant community for generations to come
