It was a cool 24 degrees in Abbotsford on July 31st, 2017. It may have helped with the temperature in the auditorium as the city council was going to vote on the hot topic of proceeding with the application for the removal of farmland from the Agricultural Land Reserve. During open houses, 57% of the public disagreed with ALR exclusion of the area identified as Special Study Area A. It was the opposite response for Special Study Area B which saw 85% agreeing with exclusion. Dozens of people attended the council meeting which ran past midnight. At the end of the meeting city council voted 8-1 to proceed and apply to remove the land from the ALR.
The current elected officials 4 voted in support of the application.
