Farming for the Future: How Abbotsford's New Agricultural Zones are Paving the Way for Economic Grow

Abbotsford has recently taken a significant step in the right direction by introducing six new agricultural zones, each with its own unique focus. These zones have been designed to support the development and growth of agricultural businesses in our community, while also protecting our valuable agricultural land reserves.

The new zones are:

  • Agricultural Zone 1 – Uplands (A1)

  • Agricultural Zone 2 – Lowlands (A2)

  • Agricultural and Resource Processing Zone (A3)

  • Agricultural and Produce Processing Zone (A4)

  • Agricultural and Farm Industrial Zone (A5)

  • Agricultural and Commercial Mushroom Composting Zone (A6)

These zones offer exciting opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors looking to build their businesses in the agricultural industry. With these new zones, Abbotsford is well-positioned to attract new businesses and create new jobs in our community.

It's worth noting that the city of Chilliwack has already taken similar steps to create agricultural zones in their community, and it has paid off for them. The Chilliwack Food and Beverage Processing Park, located within the Agricultural Land Reserve, has attracted big-name companies such as Molson Coors Brewery and Red Bull. The Molson Coors Brewery alone has created 100 new jobs in the area, and Red Bull is expected to add another 60 highly skilled jobs.

In addition to these large companies, Chilliwack has also attracted smaller businesses like the John Deere tractor dealership which relocated from Abbotsford to Chilliwack. This move was likely influenced by the city's focus on creating a supportive environment for agricultural businesses.

While it's great to see our neighbors in Chilliwack succeed, we believe that Abbotsford can also benefit from creating these new agricultural zones. By focusing on sustainable agriculture and investing in local businesses, we can create a thriving community that offers opportunities for young professionals like us to build our careers and lives.

The introduction of these new agricultural zones is just the beginning. We are excited to see what the future holds for Abbotsford and the opportunities that lie ahead for our community
